Cover: brief intake, research and reference gathering, concept development, iteration based on feedback, and final delivery. Don't just describe what you made — describe how you made decisions. The process is what the interviewer is really evaluating.

Show that you can separate ego from work. Describe the feedback specifically, how you processed it, and what you changed or why you pushed back respectfully with rationale. The best answer shows that you viewed the feedback as information, not criticism.

Good designers turn vague briefs into clear ones before starting. Clarify: audience, goal, tone, constraints, success metric. Gather references. Present multiple concept directions at low fidelity before investing in a full design. Never start high-fidelity work on an unclear brief.

Name specific sources: Dribbble, Behance, Brand New (for brand work), Awwwards (for web design), Pentagram blog, Instagram design accounts. Show that you have a specific curation habit, not just a vague "I follow design on social."

Show that you can operate effectively within constraints rather than around them. Describe how you interpreted the guidelines, found creative latitude within them, and delivered work that was both compliant and compelling.

Be specific and opinionated. Most designers should answer Figma for UI/product work and Adobe Illustrator for identity/print. Explain your reasoning: collaboration, component systems, vector flexibility. Show that your tool choice is deliberate.

Cover: CMYK color space, bleed and safety margins (typically 3mm bleed, 5mm safe zone), image resolution (300 DPI minimum), fonts embedded or outlined, and pre-flight checks.

WCAG 2.1 contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text), alt text for images, not relying on color alone to convey meaning, accessible typography. Show that accessibility is part of your design process, not an afterthought.

Facilitate alignment rather than just executing competing requests. Identify the core disagreement, frame the decision around the brief's goal, and present options with clear trade-offs. Design leadership means helping clients make better decisions, not just making whatever they ask for.

Frame decisions in terms of user behavior and business goals, not aesthetics. "The larger type size makes the CTA more scannable, which should increase click-through rate" lands better than "I made it bigger because it looks better."
